What’s better than chocolate and roses for Valentine’s Day? How about a healthy heart? February is National Heart Awareness Month. Here are three tips on how to get yourself and your kids more active:
- Do it together!
Who says that parents just have to drive their kids around and sit on the sidelines? Martial arts is an activity that you can do together with your child. Our adults students who study alongside their child find that their participation provides a positive role model for their kids and increases their ability to help their child. What’s more, on the days mom is dragging her feet to go to class, the kids surprise them by helping provide motivation! - Get involved
Kids don’t usually get enough exercise during the regular school day. The American Heart Association recommends at least 60 minutes of exercise per day for kids 6- to 17-years-old. Elementary and secondary schools simply don’t provide that amount of time. Getting our kids involved in after school activities helps get their heart rates up for the recommended amount of time. - Make exercise fun
At a karate school, we help students burn calories through fun drills and exercises. Many people exercise for the sake of exercise, they set sweating as a goal. Martial arts has sweating as a side effect, and while you’re engaged in it, you don’t realize how hard you’re working.

Our schools proudly bring the traditional martial arts of karate, jujitsu and aikido to our communities with classes for adults and kids.
