2021 Kumite Tournament Registration

It’s Kumite tournament time! Grab this opportunity for you or your child to participate in an organization-wide sparring competition.

Students from five Traditional Okinawan Karate schools will enter and come together on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 for Kumite competitions in rings with students of similar age and rank. This is a great learning opportunity for goal setting, performing under pressure, and winning and losing with grace.

Tournament participation is $80 and includes admission to the Shiai (a $30 value).

The Shiai that follows will include demonstrations of martial arts techniques, high-ranking promotions, and a potluck party. All students are expected to attend the Shiai. Only some students are invited to the testing Saturday morning, preceding the tournament.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 17 at New Paltz Karate (Free for Spectators)
6:30 p.m. Arrival for Instructors and Black Belts in the Tournament
7:00 p.m. Instructor Kumite Tournament
8:00 p.m. Black Belt Kumite Tournament
9:00 p.m. Arrival for Brown Belt/Black Belt Workout

SATURDAY, SEPT. 18 AT ULSTER COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS (Admission or registration fee)
9:00 a.m. Arrival time for adults helping with the Tournament or testing.
9:30 a.m. Arrival time for students Testing, for those who have received a testing notice.
10:00 a.m. Testing will begin on time. If you are late you run the risk of not being tested.
11:00 a.m. Arrival time for Tournament participants. Also meeting time for tournament judges and all helpers.
11:15 a.m. Tournament begins.
12:30 p.m. Arrival time for all other students (not testing or participating in tournament).
1:00 p.m. Shiai begins, students should be dressed, warmed up and ready to go.
3:00 p.m. Enkai (Potluck) begins.
